Election of Professor Nayla Comair Obeid in the ICC Executive Board
On May 21st the ICC Nomination and Human Resources committee held a meeting and nominated upon the recommendation ICC – Lebanon, Dr. Nayla Comair Obeid as a candidate for the membership of the ICC Executive Board.
On May 29th, during the ICC World Council meeting, Dr. Obeid was elected as a member of the ICC Executive Board for a mandate of three years starting July 1st 2019.
The ICC Executive Board is responsible for developing and implementing ICC’s strategy, policy and program of action and for overseeing the financial affairs of the world business organization. In particular, it is responsible for recommending to the ICC World Council the appointment of the ICC Chairmanship and Secretary General as well as approving all policy documents.
The election of Dr. Obeid in the ICC Executive Board is the second for a Lebanese figure in the ICC Governance, after the election of H.E Pr. Adnan Kassar as ICC Vice -President between 1997 -1998 and President between 1999-2000.
Dr. Obeid’s election is a result of her long path in the legal and arbitration domain academically and professionally. she has been systemically identified as one of the world’s leading practitioners in the field of international arbitration and dispute resolution. Recently she was elected as President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators for one year, being the first Arab and Middle eastern women and the third globally since the inception of the institute a century ago in London.
